sabrina good morning and thanks for joining us for local 5 news midday...i'm sabrina ahmed. sabrina: new at midday -- call leads to a short school lockdown in waukee. were called to williams pointe townhomes in this morning. there's been information released so far. but we do know a man was taken to the hospital and released for injuries sustained in the incident. waukee schools are no longer on lockdown - -that lasted about 30 minutes. right now - police are talking to potential suspects and still investigating. sabrina: of course we'll keep you posted. for the latest on the story -- check in on our website. that's we are iowa dot com. sabrina: moving to your local election headquarters now... and a change in the race for the white house. sabrina: rand paul is suspending his campaign. the freshman senator was once viewed as a formidable presidential contender. he finished a disappointing fifth place in

sabrina: and finally -- how much do you spend on coffee? a starbucks trip here and there can add up. good news coffee lovers -- the price for coffee beans are at a two year low. but that doesn't mean you'll pay less for that cup of joe. mary moloney explains in today's consumer watch. the type of coffee beans starbucks buys and serves to customers is now cheaper. last year -- a pound of coffee cost 1 dollar 65. it's now about a buck 11. that's a 33 percent drop. and it's only expected to get cheaper. officials in brazil expect coffee farmers to have a big harvest this season -- creating an oversupply of beans -- which means more of a drop in prices. but don't expect to save any money when you buy that high-end cup of joe. for a company like starbucks -- coffee beans only make up about 20 percent of its overall cost. other factors influencing the price you pay -- how much employees make. take home pay for baristas is going up. especially with more places across the country increasing the minimum wage. and starbucks is also paying tuition for 4- thousand employees.

waukee schools are no longer on lockdown - -that lasted about 30 minutes. right now - police are talking to potential suspects and still investigating. sabrina: of course we'll keep you posted. for the latest on the story -- check in on our website. that's we are iowa dot com. sabrina: meanwhile -- the polk county sheriff;s office has shared some details to give citizens an idea of what to be watching out for... first, the call comes from a recorded service with an 8-0-4 area code . it's been telling iowans they have a federal law suit filed against them and that they'll be arrested if they don't call back. polk county warns this type of call is fake. so hang up and don't call the number back. anyone who receives such a call should also report the information to their local law enforcement. sabrina: new this morning...iowa city will catch some international attention in the fall when a major cycling town. sabrina: in september a cyclo-cross will be held at county fairgrounds. cyclo-cross is a very popular sport in europe. broadcast this

than eight million homes in europe. cyclo-cross is a form of bike racing that involves off- road riding and obstacles. this is video from a similar national event at the fairground each year. one organizer says in addition to the international exposure, the racing will attract a lot of people from around the country. sabrina moving to your national headlines now -- and two senior military leaders saying women should be required to register for the draft. sabrina/lam: restrictions that barred women from combat jobs in the u-s were lifted by the defense department last year. and during a senate hearing on women in combat tuesday -- marine corps commandant general robert neller said-- quote -- "every american who's neller said-- quote -- "every american who's physically qualified should register for the draft." army chief of staff general mark milley said he agreed. acting secretary of the army told the hearing the matter should be put to a national debate. he also encouraged congress to look into the issue.

through the state lasting into early monday morning. plan on a cooler and windy week starting next monday. sabrina: yesterday's snow wreaked havoc on northwest iowa...closing a number of local businesses and highways. the snow even garnered attention from those on the opposite side of the state. bria bell explains. um, well actually we're from the quad cities," says countryman. kent countryman is from davenport, iowa and he says after seeing weather warnings about a blizzard hitting the siouxland area. kent decided he would be travelling across the state to help a local landscaping company clean up the white stuff in sioux city "...went ahead and called sharp landscaping here...and i asked him with the size of a storm that was coming in could they use any help and he said, 'definitely. come this way,' so we

headed out here," says countryman. kent is in the landscaping business himself and because his neck of the woods hasn't received much snow action, he says the blizzard was his chance to earn some extra cash. "because of the lack of snow we've had this year, in our area...we were kind of...we gotta get some income countryman. the snow fall was so heavy, it made clearing roadways and parking kent says he'd been in north sioux for some time and it felt as it his work was not putting any dents into the snow. "it's a blizzard. i've been through...i've been in the snow business myself for 35 years so i've been through a few blizzards before and it's one of things that you just have to continually, contiually go at," said countryman. and we did want photos of a good deed here in the deed here in the metro. pictures facebook page.
